Ministers of Industry of 21 Countries on Climate Changes
Promotion of private-public partnership for the creation of global climate policy - is one of the goals of the "Summit on Sectoral Cooperation" initiative. Brought by the Ministry of Economy, the international summit will be held on 27-28 November in Warsaw.
The summit will be joined by representatives of 21 countries, responsible for approx. 80 per cent of global carbon dioxide emission. Ministers of industry and representatives of the business world will discuss the optimum methods for prevention of climate changes.
Participation of representatives of governments and industries in the summit will enable them to co-ordinate collaborative actions. Their talks should contribute to identification and promotion of new opportunities for inter- and intrasectoral collaboration, which will lead to a decline in global emissions. One of the instruments that can be used to achieve this goal is transfer and implementation of new environmentally-friendly technologies. The energy-intensive industries will be represented by, inter alia, producers of aluminium, steel and cement, who are responsible for approx. 11 per cent of global emission. The discussion will be also joined by representatives of the energy sector, which plays a vital role in the modern economy.
Inter-sectoral co-operation initiatives undertaken to-date will be presented during the conference. These are, among others: "Aluminium for future generations" or "Cement sustainability initiative" implemented by industrial associations.
The summit, whose concept has been brought forward by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy, Waldemar Pawlak, precedes the 14th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP14), which will take place on the 1-12 December, 2008 in Poznan. Outcomes of discussions held by ministers and industry representatives will be presented to the participants of COP14 and during Poznan Business Day.
